Living locally

Keilor is based in a beautiful old church just walking distance from Keilor village.

We have a strong focus on encouraging community participation and promoting independence through choice the development of useful skills that can be used in everyday life.

It’s not all fun and games at Keilor (though we do tend to have lots of fun) but we like to use some of our independent living skills too like learning to make our own coffee, helping with the vacuuming, doing a bit of gardening and helping to take the rubbish out.

We all have our jobs at Keilor and everyone likes to help out and feel useful. We love feedback and we love to hear from our families.

We have an amazing veggie patch that gets tended to by everyone and we use our fresh organic produce when we cook lunch.  We also like to make muffins and we always try to promote healthy options.

Our team is conscious of promoting appropriate behaviour and social skills and we like to practice this while out in the community. We love to be involved in our community and we love it when we go down to the village for a coffee and people stop to say hello while many of the shop owners remember all our names.

We also participate in a wide variety of activities at the Ascot Vale Leisure Centre for fitness and recreation.

When we go shopping we write out a shopping list and are delegated items off that list to put in the trolley.

Sometimes when we are out in the community we like to just go to the park for a picnic or a BBQ, these are always fun days out.

At Keilor we support and work with each individual focusing on personal needs and aspirations in life.

We are a relatively small  and close group and we look forward to providing more services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder or similar needs in the future.
